This graffiti was found today at the men’s restroom by the Cowell Coffeeshop at around 3:00 pm. Please disseminate these images and if you find any other offensive graffiti please post them onto this tumblr. This image helps demonstrate the cultural incompetence that occurs within the university. This ongoing recurrence of racist graffiti helps show the dire need of a critical race and ethnic studies. Not to say that this department would solve all of life’s problems, but it is important to hold our administrators accountable for the struggle for a critical ethnic studies because students have demanded this for decades. Furthermore, a critical centralized location of inquiry would not only serve students of color, but the perpetrators of this discriminatory behavior. It is clear, that UCSC is a racially hostile campus that is lacking in diversity and consciousness. This type of behavior needs to be addressed in a more significant manner other than a vague apology which has occurred in the past. If gun threats at UCSC are taken seriously, then this type of graffiti deserves the same type of attention.
